Vodou Culture 101: Love Work

One of the most common reasons that someone would contact a spiritual worker or priest is because they want to change something in their love life. Love work is one of the more complex forms of magical work for several reasons, including that whatever the situation is, the factors that caused it probably haven’t changed. An example is work to get an ex back in your life.

The problem is usually caused in part by behavior, in this case the way both people treated or treat each other. If neither person wants to change their behavior, no matter how much magic is being done, the couple are likely to drift apart again after awhile. If the couple is intended to retain the relationship, at least one person in the relationship needs to change what they’re doing. Magic might be able to sweeten the attitude of the person it’s being done on, but if their partner acts exactly the same, the relationship will fall apart again.

This is sometimes where a client tries to get the magical worker or priest to force the target to stay no matter what using obsession or binding work, rather than be open to changing their behavior. More magic can be done to dull the target’s nature, but that work will have to be done on regular intervals, and likely several times a year costing thousands of dollars—there is no “wave a wand once and be done forever” with forcing someone to act against their interests. It’s much easier and cheaper to sweeten the target and change the behavior of the client than it is to continuously suppress the will of the target.

The problem can be additionally caused by magical interference, by someone commissioning a priest or magical worker to break the relationship. Sudden changes in behavior can sometimes be a sign of this (or a sign that the client didn’t see the existing problems). In those cases, the client is essentially commissioning the priest or magical worker to get into a war of will with whatever priest or magical worker was commissioned to break the relationship in the first place. A good magical worker or priest will be able to tell that magic has already been done on the target, and have some idea of how to nullify it.

Sometimes, the problem is a matter of luck—as in the case of people who are having trouble attracting a partner. This is usually coupled with behavioral problems, particularly avoidance of opportunity, often because they feel overwhelmed or depressed by their lack of success. This problem requires work on the luck of the person, in addition to changes to their behavior.

Sometimes, also, the target has no feelings toward the client, which can be remedied (assuming the target and client can actually meet and there is no other source of resistance) without having to compensate for some of the other factors.

It is unfortunate how often people want love work done but have no intention of changing how they behave, which is an important part of retaining, strengthening, and deepening what the magic begins. You can opt to break a relationship or ruin your own chances, but a work can always be done.
